The top three prizes in the first edition of
the international floral art competition, Art &
Flowers by Macef, organized by Floral Designers,
International School of Floral Art during the
recent Macef, International Home Show, went to
Italy, Belgium and Holland in that order.
In first place was Nicola Puricelli (Lombardy),
in second, the Belgian, Stefan Van Berlo, and
third, Anita Hulspas from Holland. Seven teams
of Floral Designers competed in three tests on
the themes “The pictures of Vincent Van Gogh”,
The World….in a Flower” and “The Macef House”.
The jury was made up of three Floral Design
experts (from the Floral Designer School), a
journalist and an interior designer.
The competition for points which resulted in
the above-mentioned winners came after three
extremely intense and interesting days, with
dozens of floral designers from all over the
world intent on creating compositions that can
only be defined as spectacular on the themes of
St. Valentine’s Day, Spring, International
Women’s Day, Easter and The Bride (with a parade
of models in wedding dresses). All the
performances were watched by a numerous,
attentive public, partly curious about this new
event, but well-disposed to welcome the leit
motiv of the initiative – making more room for
flowers and floral arrangements in the home.
Why a flower arranging exhibition, and why at
Macef, International Home Show? According to
Santillo De Cristofaro, director of the Floral
Designer School, “there is no better pairing
than that between flowers and the home. Through
this competition – which follows and enlarges on
the first experience at Macef September 2007 –
we want to suggest to everyone, the general
public as well as shopkeepers, that they make
room for flowers and floral arrangements both as
a decorative element in the home (a suggestion
for consumers) and in the retail store (and this
is a “technical-professional” suggestion for
visitors to Macef)”.
