Milan, 11 June 2008

The area dedicated to the “person” continues to grow and develop at Macef.

Handbags, earrings and accessories
in search of a worthwhile market

Interest in Macef, International Home Show is growing on the part of companies involved in the personal sector – that is, gold jewellery, silver and above all costume jewellery and fashion accessories. There will be no less than four halls at Macef September 2008 (at fieramilano from 5 to 8 September) occupied by these companies in an total area of over 20 thousand square metres with around 500 exhibitors, above all small and large companies with an international calling. “The costume jewellery industry assigns a very important role to trade fairs.” says Nello Martini, Macef Exhibition Director. “Indeed, these companies rarely have international branches and networks of agents, so fairs represent their main point of contact with clients, especially foreign clients.”

The circuit managed by Fiera Milano International includes no less than four events a year dedicated to costume jewellery: the two Macefs in January and September, ChibiDue/Summer Business at the end of May and Chibimart in November. The exhibitors are often the same and it is not rare for companies to be present at all four events. In addition, the past few years have seen a growth in cash and carry in this sector, goods (generally from overseas) sold directly at the fair to specialist traders, who in this way save on storage costs and tying up money.

At Macef September 2008 the personal sector will be located in fieramilano halls 8/12 and 16/20 (the latter dedicated to cash and carry). Numerous events will take place during the show, some organized directly by the companies.

This is the case for Camomilla, the Buccinasco (Mi) company famous for its successful management of the Hello Kitty brand, which this year will celebrate its first 25 years during Macef. And it is doing it with a parade of its products through the South gate, the concluding act in a road show that took its now famous “happy rose” all around Italy.

Lots of events in Hall 16, with The Best of Ornamenta competition organized by Macef in cooperation with the magazine of the same name and now in its third edition. This year there will be four competition categories: best use of crystal; best use of black and white; best accessory/bijoux inspired by plants (flowers, leaves etc.); best accessory/bijoux inspired by the animal kingdom (crocodile skin, fur etc.) A jury of experts will examine the competition entries submitted by exhibitors and will select 12 finalists whose creations will be housed in the Ornamenta space during Macef. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony on Saturday, 6 September at 12.00 noon.

Hall 12 will also be the venue for the In viaggio con Bijoux competition – a prize of a week’s holiday for two, in Kenya, drawn from the postcards posted in the urn situated at the centre of a refreshment and entertainment area enlivened by music and tastings. Postcards to take part in the draw will be handed out at all reception desks.

Hall 16 will house the well-established Designer Club, reserved for young people from all over the world and situated in a sophisticated VIP lounge.

Star of Hall 12 will be the Little Fantasies area dedicated to fashion accessories. Housed in this area – characterized by modular pre-fitted 9 square metre stands – will be a selection of very creative companies with not particularly large catalogues who are looking for visibility but do not need a large space. “It will be their way to approach Macef – says Martini – and to start off from Milan to try to significantly develop their business, as happened before to many businesses who found their launching pad onto the world’s markets right here in Milan at Macef.”
